Beyond just processing pollutants resulted from steelmaking process, POSCO has concentrated its effort on reducing the amount of pollutants fundamentally. In 2007, POSCO invested KRW 4,940 billion, 12.2% of the total investments in equipment, in environmental equipment. Since its inauguration in 1968, POSCO has invested the total KRW 3.4460 trillion in environmental improvement business by the end of 2007, which represents 8.9% of the total investments in equipment.

In order to maintain the invested environmental equipment, the environmental cost was KRW 5696 hundred million, and the total cost including the expenditure for resource recovery and environmental R&D is KRW 6,444 billion.
